Dark brown hair go lighter without dyeing it?

When i dyed my hair i kept going in the pool and i think the chlorine lightened it. Maybe you could try that but i don't know if it'll work on natural hair. I know going in the sun lightens it. I don't know anything about the shampoos because i never wanted lighter hair. so sorry but hopefully i could help. (:
